What Is MayMay's Ranch?

A Home for the Dogs No One Else Chooses

Just twenty minutes outside Winnemucca, Nevada, we own a quiet 9-acre property we’re transforming into MayMay’s Ranch — a sanctuary for deaf dogs and elderly, unadopted, and “unadoptable” dogs.

Our dream is simple: every dog here will live a spoiled life in a real home setting, with soft beds, wide-open space, training tailored to their needs, and love without limits.

We’re also committed to creating meaningful jobs for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing adults. All MayMay's Ranch employees & volunteers will be provided ASL classes, which will also be offered to the Winnemucca community, so all are included in our mission.

Sanctuary, Not a Shelter

Dogs at MayMay’s Ranch won’t live in rows of kennels. They’ll live in cozy home-style cottages, with couches, blankets, and yards that feel like freedom.

Fostering for Local Rescues

We’ll partner with rescues in Winnemucca and surrounding regions to foster their dogs while they search for forever homes—giving rescues room to save even more lives.

Purpose for People & Dogs

By hiring Deaf/HoH team members, we’re creating compassionate jobs rooted in care, connection, and shared understanding between people and dogs.

MayMay: From Heartbreak to Inspiration

MayMay was found wandering alone, abandoned and unclaimed. A neighbor shared her photo online, and the shelter tried calling the numbers on her microchip—but no one ever answered. She was scheduled for adoption the next morning.

We arrived at opening, ready to take her home. When she walked out with two giant ropes of drool hanging from her mouth, we panicked and left without her. On the drive home, we realized how unfair to reject her for something she could not control. We'll just put a towel in every room. We turned around and adopted her.

MayMay slipped into our family like she had always been there—sassy, sweet, and endlessly loving. Our three children adored her. She traveled, played, and lived like every dog should.

At just five years old, a small bump on her leg changed everything. The cancer had already spread to her lungs. All we could do was spoil her rotten and love her fiercely until she let us know it was time to cross the rainbow bridge.

Losing her broke our hearts. But in that grief, a purpose was born: to build a sanctuary in her honor and save as many dogs like her as we can. MayMay may be gone, but her legacy will live on in every life saved at this ranch.

Today 4 of our dogs have a home with us because Maymay's influence on our lives.

Build Her Legacy With Us

From Empty Land to Living Sanctuary

We purchased our 9-acre property as bare land—no homes, no fences, not even utilities. We’ve chosen not to take out loans so that economic changes never limit how many dogs we can save. Instead, we’re building MayMay’s Ranch step by step, through generosity alone.

Your donations help us bring in water and power, build home-style dog cottages, create outdoor play yards, and prepare the ranch to welcome its first residents.
